Embedded Microprocessor Design

Capstone course for seniors in Computer/Electrical Engineering.

  • Partnered with two other students to create an electronic product employing an embedded microprocessor. Selected product: UV sensor wearable auréole
  • Objective: Design, specify, build, and test an electronic product employing an embedded microprocessor (UV sensor wearable)
  • Key requirements:
    • Identify key components for product
    • Sketch out systems level block diagram of product
    • Calculate power budget from selected components
    • Select suitable power management system
    • Begin design and layout of product PCB
  • Project management approach: Weekly scrum with project partners, attending office hours of professors if necessary
  • Challenges encountered
    • Technical questions and challenges from interacting with entirely new systems
    • Lack of direction from professors → project management questions and miscommunications
  • Outcomes: Specification phase in progress, Product Requirements Document V1 completed. Moving on to design phase–Schematic capture V1 pictured below.
